Have you ever had “gratin dauphinois”? This classic French dish is made of melt-in-your-mouth potatoes cooked in milk and then baked to perfection. Well, this plantain gratin recipe draws its inspiration from that dish. I substituted plantains for the potatoes, and an already made tomato sauce for the milk, crème fraîche and butter mix. It was so easy to make and so tasty that I made it for dinner twice in a row! The melt-in-your-mouth quality was there as the plantain slices cooked thoroughly and uniformly while absorbing the flavors of the tomato sauce. Even more, the contrast with the crunchy top layer and the rest of the dish created a yummy party in each spoonful. What do you say? Join the party, make this gratin and let us know what you think in the comments below.
